Fire and Iron

Fire and Iron is the title of the catalog/artist’s book which accompanies Bill Burke’s exhibit of the same name at Pittsburgh Filmmakers. The show and book trace themes related to steel and fire, which includes pictures made in America’s steel and coal country and follows the path of the characters in the film The Deer Hunter to settings of the Vietnam War.

The catalog includes alarmingly appropriate poems made by artist Sue Wrbican who worked in a steel mill in the late 1970s.

About the show:

Disparate pictures from many stages of Bill Burke’s career, all in some way related to fire and iron. Pictures of cars, motorcycles, steel and coal country, the war he avoided going to, real and potential cannon fodder on both sides are all included in this wide range of photos made between 1974 and 2001.
